What is State of Survival (SoS)?
SoS is an online multiplayer survival strategy game with zombies. Growing up, I wasn't a fan of zombie games/movies. They creeped me out, and I think I took them too seriously. It just gave me anxiety. But that was until I played Call of Duty. TBH every time I have a rough day, the mind-numbing zombie-killing helps. Then there's the Resident Evil. I bought the game a while back and gave it a shot, but I can't do jump scares lol. I know some people really like the rush, but I just don't. Believe me, I've tried. Maybe someday!
The creators have also reached new heights of creativity when it comes to zombies. In the movie Army of Thieves, the zombie king, who's sentient, has a zombie queen, and in the movie, they're expecting a zombie child. Yes, you read the right. INSANE.
Anyways, I digress. Let's get back to SoS.
My journey with SoS started off with an innocent 'Oh! This looks interesting, let's give it a shot'. I never fathomed that I'd get addicted to a mobile game (I moved it to my iPad now cause of finger cramps lol). I was one of those people who don't use their cell phones too lot. I did have some games prior to SoS, but I'd play them a couple of times and then eventually end up removing them.
How is SoS different from other online multiplayer strategy games?
Well, the game is engaging AF. There's always so much happening! The objective of this game is to grow in battle power solo and with the alliance.
Here's what my settlement looks like.
Pretty, isn't it? I built my settlement from scratch :') Planted every tree, paved pathways and created roads, placed lamp posts and traffic lights. No wonder I have separation anxiety. I have indeed invested so much of my time and PATIENCE on this.
As someone with ADHD, who struggles to hold attention, SoS got me! I spend hours on this every day. I have friends on SoS and an alliance that I'm a part of. There are events every other day, and the rewards are awesome. There's so much you can do here, here are some examples:
Alliance events: Influencer Traps, Zombie Horde, Reservoir Raid, Fortress fight, Capital clash, Flash Duels, Plague Zones
Solo events: Azurtane Heist, Kill events, several point events
Beyond these events, there are other things that you do as the chief of your settlement to increase your battle power. You can upgrade your chief, HQ and building levels, gather resources, train troops, collect heroes, upgrade hero and chief gear, and there's definitely more that I'm probably forgetting right now.
My favorite alliance event is the Zombie Horde. There are like 20 waves of zombies that hit every chief's settlement in your alliance. Your task is to defend yourself till the end and reinforce other chiefs in need. As per the solo event, I'd have to say, it's the Azurtane heist. It's a 30 mins event where you enter a different arena, the objective is to collect gas. There's absolute chaos in this arena. Chiefs can attack other chiefs occupying gas buildings, and attack the infected to gain buffs.
What I don't like about SoS?
So here's the catch. People run out of patience. Since it's a multiplayer game, there's a constant need to keep leveling up. The game gives you ample opportunities to get a variety of speed-ups which helps with your growth. But you run out soon. And when you do, they have these flash pop-ups with speed-up packages to purchase. Kudos to the creators and the marketing team of SoS. Their ads are very well placed, it's tough to resist. During my second week playing this game, I bought a couple of chief gear packs, and I haven't been able to stop ever since. Today, while looking at my credit card statements, I realized that I've spent a LOT of money on SoS. I don't necessarily regret it cause I really do enjoy the game, but I definitely need to set aside a monthly budget so that I don't overspend.
Being someone who's spent some good 50+ days playing SoS, I do have some wisdom to share if you want to play with a free account. You just have to be a little strategic about how you spend your resources :)
Thank you for reading this. More about SoS in my next blog. Stay Tuned!
